Neem Karoli Baba is an Indian saint who influenced both the American and Indian societies with his thoughts.

Neem Karoli Baba, Indian SaintNeem Karoli Baba was born in Akbarpur in Ferozabad district in Uttar Pradesh. He was a great devotee of Lord Hanuman. He has his ashrams in Kainchi, Vrindavan, Rishikesh, Shimla, Bhumiadhar, Hanuman Ghar, Lucknow, Delhi in India and in Taos, New Mexico, USA.

He was born in a Brahmin family. Initially he was known as Pundit Lakshmi Narayan Sharma. At the age of eleven he was married to Rambeti and had three children. He left his home when his youngest daughter was eleven and wandered throughout northern India as a sadhu. He did his tapasya and sadhana at Bavasia in Gujarat. There he was known as Tallaiya Baba.

The famous disciples of Neem Karoli Baba were Ram Dass, Bhagavan Das, Lama Surya Das and the musicians Jai Uttal and Krishna Das. Other notable devotees include humanitarian Larry Brilliant and his wife Girija and Dada Mukherjee.

He died on September 11, 1973 in Vrindavan.
