It is an international association football tournament organised by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) that takes place in India.

Nehru Cup, International Football TournamentThe tournament was inaugurated in the year 1982 but was not held between 1998 and 2007. The trophy was won by Iraq in the year 1997 and then reinstated only again in 2007. The tournament was shelved after 1997 due to lack of sponsorship and other reasons. It was revived in 2007 mainly due to persuasion by the former coach of Indian National team Bob Houghton. The original rolling trophy could not be recovered from Iraq, and a new trophy was designed.

1982 Nehru Cup
The Nehru Cup of 1982 was the first edition of the Nehru Cup. It was held from February 16 to March 3, in Calcutta. A total of 6 teams participated in the tournament being invited by the AIFF. The tournament was played in a round-robin style with the top two in the final standings then meeting in a final match to crown the champions. Also amateur teams and `B` sides from Europe were invited to participate in this tournament.

The 2012 Nehru Cup Final was a match that took place on 2nd September 2012 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi, India, between India and Cameroon. India won the match in the penalty shoot out at 5-4 after the match ended on 2-2 after 120 minutes. India became the winner for the third successive time. India entered the tournament as reigning champions after winning the 2009 Nehru Cup at the Ambedkar Stadium.

In the year 2007 India won the Nehru Cup Tournament by defeating Syria in 1-0 margin. Soviet Union won the tournament 4 times, Hungary 2 times; Iraq 2 times and Uruguay, Poland, Romania, North Korea and India each won single time.
