Medical colleges of BiharThe state of Bihar in India has a large number of medical colleges that have been working on achieving some certain aims and objectives. The medical colleges in Bihar can be classified in different categories in different ways. There are all kinds of medical colleges in Bihar like Allopathic, Homeopathic, Ayurvedic or Unani and all of them are spreading the light of medical education in the state. The colleges are offering several courses in different fields of medical science at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The beginning of medical education in Bihar happened long ago, with the establishment of Patna Medical College (PMC), Patna in 1925. Thereafter, a large number of medical colleges were founded during the 1960s to 1990s. The medical colleges in Bihar offer the courses like MBBS, B.D.S, MD, MS, M.Ch, PhD etc and most of the colleges admit the students from Bihar only. The students are admitted through a two phase combined medical Entrance examination test that is common to all medical colleges of the state. The minimum educational qualification for the students is passing I. Sc. or equivalent qualifying examination with 50% marks.

The medical colleges in Bihar are situated in all the major cities like Gaya, Patna, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur etc. Apart from offering different courses in different fields of medical science, there are also some institutions that conduct quality research work and other programmes. The Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna is one such institution that was founded following the pattern of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi.

The most important medical colleges in Bihar include the Dr. S. M. Naqui Imam Dental College & Hospital (SMIDCH), Darbhanga, the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Bhagalpur, the Patna Medical College, Patna etc. Some of the other important medical colleges in Bihar include the A. N. Magadh Medical College, Gaya; Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Gaya; Buddha Institute of Dental Sciences, Patna; Darbhanga Medical College, Laherasaria; Birsa Memorial Institute of Medical and Allied Science, Hazaribagh; Dayanand Ayurved College and Hospital, Siwan; Government AS Ayurvedic College, Begusarai; Katihar Medical College, Katihar; Maulana Azad Institute of Medical Sciences, Gaya; Nizamia Unani Medical College, Gaya; etc. All the medical colleges are working relentlessly to make good doctors and improve the health scenario of the state.
