Universities of Jharkhand
Universities of Jharkhand offer wide range of courses at undergraduate, post-graduate and Ph. D levels in various disciplines. Jharkhand has several such institutes of national importance and research centers of excellence. Some of these universities of Jharkhand are Central University of Jharkhand, Ranchi University and Vinoba Bhave University.

The state of Jharkhand was carved out of the state of Bihar in the year 2000, with Ranchi as its capital. The universities of Jharkhand offer advanced knowledge in various fields of study. Some of these universities are described below.

Central University of Jharkhand
Central University of Jharkhand is situated in Ranchi. It was set up by an Act of Parliament in 2009. This teaching and research university provides five year "Integrated Masters Programs" in over 20 disciplines, a few postgraduate programs and Ph. D programs. Diploma and certificate programs are also offered by the university.

Ranchi University
Universities of Jharkhand, Indian UniversitiesRanchi University is headquartered in Ranchi. It was established on 12th of July, 1960, as a teaching-cum-affiliating university. It caters to the educational needs of five districts of Jharkhand namely, Ranchi, Gumla, Khunti, Simdega and Lohardaga.

Sido Kanhu Murmu University
Sido Kanhu Murmu University is a public university situated in the area of Santhal Parganas. It has its headquarters at Dumka. It was set up in the year 1992, by an Act of Bihar Legislative Assembly. On 6th of May, 1993, the university was affiliated to the Association of Indian Universities. The university has 13 constituent colleges and 15 affiliated colleges.

Vinoba Bhave University
Vinoba Bhave University is located at Hazaribagh and is funded by Government of India. It is one of the premier universities of Jharkhand. The university was set up on 17th of September, 1992. It offers high standards of teaching and research. Vinoba Bhave University is a part of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, London.

Birsa Agricultural University
Birsa Agricultural University is situated at Kanke. It was established on 26th of June, 1981. The university aims to enhance area specific technologies and manpower in the field of agriculture, animal husbandry and forestry, in order to bring about agricultural development in the plateau region of Bihar and Jharkhand. The university has various faculties like the faculty of agriculture, faculty of veterinary science and animal husbandry, faculty of forestry and college of bio-technology.Universities of Jharkhand, Indian Universities

National Institute of Technology
National Institute of Technology (NIT) was established in 1960 in Jamshedpur. It was among the first eight regional engineering colleges (REC) established as a part of the Second Five-Year Plan and the only REC, which was set as an institute of technology rather than a college of engineering. It was recognized as a deemed university on 27th of December, 2002. It offers engineering and technology degrees at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level degrees.

Other Universities of Jharkhand
The XLRI School of Business and Human Resources is a graduate business school in Jamshedpur. It is the oldest business school in India and is consistently among the top 5 business schools of the country. The most notable technology institutes in Jharkhand are Birla Institute of Technology (Ranchi), Birsa Institute of Technology (Sindri, Dhanbad) and National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology (NIFFT). Several other institutes impart education in Jharkhand. They are Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI) in Jamshedpur, IIM (Ranchi), Kolhan University (Singhbhum), Indian School of Mines University (Dhanbad), Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) at Ranchi, Patliputra Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) at Dhanbad and Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS) at Ranchi.
